Vicki sent me the following information that she was able to find about this old family cemetery, and the beautiful statue:
The information below is from the book, "Along the Banks of the Old Northeast," by Jennifer Martin, 2000, page 143:
"The original owner [of the home] is unknown, but locals most closely associate the house with Ira Kornegay who lived here during the latter part of the nineteenth and through the early twentieth century. Ira and his wife Bettie are buried in the Kornegay cemetery located adjacent to the house. Local legend contends that Ira Kornegay was so distraught over his wife's early death that he erected a statue in her likeness so that he and those who passed by could continue to admire here beauty. The monument to Bettie Kornegay is approximately seven feet tall and is located directly in front of Ira and Bettie Kornegay's tombstones."
