The USS Constitution is located along the Freedom Trail in Boston, Massachusetts. It is part of the Boston National Historical Park.

The USS Constitution was named after the United States Constitution. It is the oldest commissioned ship in the world that is still afloat. The ship was nicknamed "Old Ironsides" during the War of 1812. The British Navy fired 18-pound cannonballs at the USS Constitution during battle, but the oak walls were so thick the cannonballs just seemed to bounce off. One of the British soldiers told his peers that "her sides are made of iron!" Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote a poem about the ship titled "Old Ironsides" and the nickname became popular.
