Oakland Cemetery Iowa City, Iowa |
![]() The contributor sent me the following story about this cemetery: The Oakland Cemetery is home to the black angel. The black angel is on top of the grave marker for the Feldevert family, commissioned by Teresa Feldevert. Their family members located under the grave are Teresa Feldevert, Eddie Dolezeal, and Nicholas Feldevert. Now more with the legend. When the black angel was first put up in Oakland Cemetery, it was bronze. But overnight it turned black. Legend has it that it kills whoever touches it within 24 hours. If a pregnant woman walks under it's wing, she will miscarry. Because of the haunting, many people did things to it like cut off it's fingers. It turns a shade darker every Halloween as a reminder of the people it killed. The black angel isn't like most angels. Instead of bright eyes and it's wings up high, it looks down at the ground with hollow eyes and drooped wings. People belive it's because the Feldevert family, or at least one member of the Feldevert family, didn't go to heaven. Most people believe if that was true it was Teresa. Another legend says only a virgin can survive touching the black angel, but no one is really sure of this.
