Maplewood Cemetery is located at the south end of Swigart Street in New Lexington, Ohio (Pike Township, Perry County). The coordinates are 39° 42' 22.55" N, 82° 12' 51.82" W.

Maplewood Cemetery is very large, and it is still active. The cemetery is beautiful, with many trees and brick roads. There are many old gravestones as well, including several large zinc monuments. The most famous person buried at Maplewood Cemetery is Januarius A. MacGahan, a journalist and war correspondent who was born near New Lexington. In 1872, MacGahan covered the Turkish invasion of Bulgaria. His dispatches to the London Daily News helped educate others throughout the world on all the horrible things going on in Bulgaria.
