Mike shared the following information about the custom of placing stones on the graves:

The custom of placing stones on graves is (1) a show of respect for the deceased and a way of letting others know the grave has been visited, and (2) a way of recalling the days when grave markers were simple piles of stones that were never completed as a way of showing that we should never stop honoring or remembering those who have gone before us.
