Jonathan Bateman sent me the following information about the Moose Factory Settlement:

I was recently up north for business and stayed in a settlement called Moose Factory in James Bay (which leads into Hudson Bay). This is one of the original sites of the Hudson Bay Trading company which helped to shape much of northern Canada. The settlement is approximately 85% aboriginal, a tribe called the MoCreebec. Until fairly recently, these people lived in tents on this island year round. There is no way to drive there, the only way in is by rail and air. A number of the buildings that were used in the transition from tents to houses are still standing and they dot the landscape all around the village. This picture was one that I had spotted from the main road while wandering around. While there is no story attached to it...there is a feeling as I roamed around that I was never completely alone, even though there was no one else around. There's also a picture of a bridge leading out to the water that gives you a bit of an idea of the general landscape of the area.
