Diane G. sent me the following e-mail about the Saratoga Springs History Museum:
The Saratoga Springs History Museum is located in the Canfield Casino in Congress Park, off Broadway, in Saratoga Springs. The museum's six exhibits of Saratoga History are located on three floors of a historic 1870's gambling casino, designated a National Historic Landmark.
The park in which the museum and casino are located has a beautiful Italian garden; my favorite things there are the sculptures of Spit and Spat. There are several sculptures by Daniel Chester French. There is an adorable indoor carousel for the children and adults at heart. I will include a few pictures of the grounds and of the museum.
The city and surrounding areas of Saratoga Springs is full of history, with plenty of cemeteries, and of course, many ghost stories. As we were there, the woman at the desk asked us if we had seen anything unusual while upstairs. Unfortunately we did not see anything, but there were a couple of places were my children and I felt our hairs stand on end...not creepy, just uncomfortable. She told us of a beautiful woman that some think is part of the museum in the entrance way or just another visitor walking through until they turn around to see her again and see no one is there. I was disappointed to not have the experience. This is a great area to live; I lived there for three years myself, and my home town is only 15 minutes away.
