Cliff sent me the following information about Elm Park Cemetery:
Though the town has diminished over the years, Baudette was an economic center in the old days of homesteaders and logging. It is literally located a stone's throw from Canada (really). Many of the original city fathers are buried at Elm Park, including Bob Cathcart, known as the "grand Old Man" of Baudette. The high school I attended (now destroyed) bore his name. His plot is interesting. He is buried next to his wife and they share a marker. His first wife, who died quite young, is buried in the same plot. I imagine there were some interesting discussions/negotiations between the man and second wife.
A large open space holds a mass grave of fire victims from a huge forest fire. The space is kept open because the exact location of the grave is not known. There are several other group interments from this fire, including a family who fled into a clearing escaping the inferno, only to succumb to smoke and heat.
I also found the drowning victim to be interesting. I had never seen a marker with "born, drowned, and buried" dates. I guess it is due to the long time it took to recover the body.
