Antique Postcard - Confederate Monument

Camp Chase contains the graves of 2,260 Confederate soldiers that died here during the Civil War. All of the graves are marked with names and ranks of the soldiers. Instead of writing a history of this cemetery, I suggest visiting this site: Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery and Military Prison...I couldn't even come close to giving this much information about Camp Chase, this site is awesome!

Camp Chase is supposedly haunted by the "Lady In Gray". Legend has it that the ghost of Louisiana Ransburgh Briggs is the Lady in Gray. While she was alive, Louisiana would go into the cemetery after dark to place flowers on all of the Confederate soldiers' graves. Today people see fresh flowers placed on the grave of Benjamin Allen on a regular basis. Also, there are several stories about people hearing sobbing or crying while visiting Camp Chase. They were mowing while I was there so I didn't hear any sobbing or see the flowers on Benjamin Allen's grave.

Camp Chase is open daily from 8AM-5PM, and 8AM-7PM on Memorial Day and Jefferson Davis Day.
