The Buckeye Belle
The Buckeye Belle was a steamboat which made daily mail trips between Zanesville and St. Mary's, Virginia (now West Virginia). In 1852 it exploded for some reason at the locks in Beverly, killing more than twenty people. Thirteen of them are buried under a monument in Beverly.
It's said that on foggy nights you can hear the sounds of the old steamboat making its way through the water, and the voices of its long-dead crew.
