The Wilson Coffin Factory

Thomas Wilson's old house and large shed may or may not still stand at the top of a hill near Route 122, aka Gratis Pike. In the 1830s Wilson, along with his partner Charles Miller, operated a coffin factory here. He built the coffins and Miller arranged the funerals, which were usually conducted at a cemetery just west of the house.

The coffin factory has long been regarded as haunted. Ghostly figures are seen rising from the shed and floating to the cemetery, perhaps in reenactment of the final leg of their earthly journey.
