The female ghost sometimes seen sitting atop a fencepost on Chicken Hollow Road near Ripley is a tragic figure in one of two ways, depending on the version of her story you believe. Both have her waiting for a soldier husband in the Civil War, but in the first she killed herself in despair, while in the other she got sick of waiting and started screwing another guy. The soldier caught them and killed them both, but only she haunts Chicken Hollow.
